Boogaloo Tactical Considerations

For Firearms Transfers

Buying a firearm online can be confusing and nerve wracking. If you do your homework, it is actually fairly seamless.

Start by making sure the firearm you want to purchase is legal for you to own in the state of California. If you are buying a handgun, then you need to check the “roster of approved handguns” through the California DOJ website here: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

If you are purchasing a bolt action rifle, there are few restrictions. There are some however, so make sure you CONFIRM BEFORE YOU BUY.

Semi automatic rifles however are heavily regulated in this state. Do not assume that because your vendor will sell it to you, that it is actually legal in California. Check our FLOW CHARTS link and connect the dots.

Same goes for semi automatic shotguns.

Once you have confirmed that the firearm you are after is good to go,  please scroll down to our “Boogaloo Tactical Policies” segment and read the entire thing. If you agree to and accept all of those policies, go ahead and list us as your receiving FFL with your seller. You WILL need to email us their contact information (email address), along with your invoice number and full name so we can provide them with our FFL information and get your firearm on it’s way to us. If you skip this step, our involvement stops right there. We simply do not have time to field every phone call that comes in on a daily basis, so do your part, and things will go smoothly.

In addition to that, please include in your initial email, your residential address and phone number, along with the total cost of your firearm including shipping, credit card and insurance fees, so we can get you into our system and get an invoice started. Lastly, we require that you indicate in your email, that you have read and agree to our policies. If you neglect to complete this step, it is likely that your firearm will sit here until you email us that information.

PLEASE DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH US THROUGH GUNBROKER.

If you purchased on Gunbroker.com, please contact us directly from YOUR personal email account.

Gunbroker emails are a real problem. Often times their emails get marked as spam, and we may not see them for a few days.  Additionally, ALL email that comes through the Gunbroker ecosystem looks the same, so we have no way of  searching for your information directly without searching every Gunbroker email we have received. Typically we just get frustrated and wait for you to call us. It is that much of a hassle.
Make note of your Gunbroker auction number, your sellers (FFL) email address, and then use YOUR personal email to communicate with us directly. This ensures that you get prompt replies and/or answers you might need prior to making a purchase.

ID Requirements:

There are state and federal requirements for I.D. and proof of residency. You will need a valid California drivers license, a  valid vehicle registration or a utility bill from the last 90 days that has your CURRENT residential address on it for handgun purchases. Long gun purchases only need a valid state issued ID card or drivers license as long as it has your CURRENT residential address on it.

You will also need a Firearm Safety Certificate. We are certified instructors and can administer the test and issue your certificate here at the time of your transfer. The cost to take the test is $25.00 whether you pass or not. if you pass, we will issue you a new certificate. Your transfer cannot proceed until you have a valid safety certificate in hand. A link to the study guide is listed at the bottom of this page.

Currently, the only form of payment we accept are personal or business checks and/or Venmo. We have decided for health and safety reasons to discontinue accepting cash at this time. That may change in the future, but for now, checks or Venmo it is. Please forgive any inconvenience this may cause.

Boogaloo Tactical Policies

If you engage us, you agree to these policies.

Boogaloo Tactical will only accept transfer of firearms that are legal for sale in the state of California. It is YOUR responsibility to confirm that the firearm you are purchasing complies with ALL state and federal laws.

We expect you to be here on time. When we set a specific appointment time for you , we also schedule our other customers 30 minutes behind or ahead of you. If you are late, it impacts us, and our customers. Our policy is that if you are 10 minutes late, you forfeit your appointment. Call us back to schedule another one.

HANDGUNS: Must be listed on the DOJ roster of approved handguns :  http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

If your handgun is NOT marked EXACTLY as it appears on the roster, IT IS NOT LEGAL FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA and we will NOT transfer the gun for you. We will either send it back to the seller at your (or their) expense, turn it over to local law enforcement if you refuse to pay for return shipping, or sit on it until the “abandonment” period of 45 days expires, then we will sell it to cover expenses.

Please be aware that ANY handgun that has been modified in ANY way by a 3rd party vendor, either by changing the color, sights, trigger, slide or any other modifications, makes it non compliant prior to transfer. PLEASE make sure that you are purchasing a handgun that has NOT been modified. Just because it says Glock 17 on slide and also on the roster, does not mean that a Glock 17 that has had extensive slide modifications or customization’s prior to transfer is legal for us to transfer. It is NOT.

LONG GUNS: IF YOU ARE BUYING A SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE – You must check the Calguns Semi Auto Ban (AW) Flow Chart (linked below) to determine if your gun passes the flow chart test. If there is even ONE variation to your long gun, or a feature that would make the firearm illegal in the state, DO NOT buy it. We cannot legally take possession of the firearm, and will be required to immediately turn it over to local law enforcement or ship it back to your seller. It is YOUR responsibility to confirm that the gun is California legal BEFORE YOU PURCHASE IT. We will NOT do your homework for you, nor will we re-package it and spend an hour at UPS/FED-Ex or the USPS for free to ship it back. Please refer to our return/shipping policy below for more information.      http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf

SHOTGUNS:
You must check the Calguns Shotgun Ban Flow Chart (linked below) to determine if your shotgun passes the flow chart test. If there is even ONE variation to your shotgun, or a feature that would make the firearm illegal in the state, DO NOT buy it. We cannot legally take possession of the firearm, and will be required to immediately turn it over to local law enforcement. It is YOUR responsibility to confirm that the gun is legal BEFORE YOU PURCHASE IT. We will NOT do your homework for you, nor will we re-package it and spend an hour at UPS/FED-Ex or the USPS for free to ship it back. Please refer to our return/shipping policy below for more information.   http://www.calguns.net/caawid/sgflowchart.pdf

LARGE CAPACITY MAGAZINES (HANDGUN/LONG GUN/SHOTGUN):
We can accept your (legal) handguns if they come with magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. We CANNOT deliver the gun to you with those magazines. Boogaloo Tactical will attempt to sell the magazines for you and compensate you 30% of the total sales price. If the magazines do not sell, you will not be compensated for the magazines. You will not be compensated for the magazines BEFORE they sell. We will do our best to sell the magazines for you, but make no guarantee that your original “high capacity” magazines will in fact sell.

All new and used firearms that come from out of state for transfer are subject to State Sales Tax which must be collected before we start the transfer process. The amount of sales tax collected, is based on the TOTAL invoice price of your firearm PLUS our “dealer fee”. Please have your seller send a copy of the sales invoice with your firearm when it is shipped to us.

How much do we charge? :

Boogaloo Tactical handgun transfer fees:  $75.00 Dealer fee + State Sales Tax if/where applicable +  DROS fee .

Boogaloo Tactical rifle/shotgun transfer fees: $65.00 Dealer fee + State Sales Tax if/where applicable +  DROS fee .

Boogaloo Tactical AMMO transfer fees: (up to 500 rounds) $25.00 Dealer Fee + DROS/AMMO fee

500 to 1000 rounds $40.00 Dealer Fee + DROS/AMMO fee .. Our ammo fees increase by $25.00 per 1000 rounds beyond the initial 1000 round count.

We loathe the ammo laws in this state as much as you do, but because ammo is heavy, bulky and a pain to deal with, we have no choice but to charge what we do. We did it for free for a year and decided we could no longer continue doing so and remain happy to help so it is what it is. Vote accordingly if this bugs you.

Boogaloo Tactical Transfer Policies Continued:

All fees and taxes are due and payable at the beginning of the transfer process. This gives us 10 days for your check to clear during your waiting period.

ANY FIREARM left for more than 45 days will be considered abandoned and sold to cover storage fees! This is a NO EXCEPTIONS policy. We simply do not have the space to warehouse firearms for everyone. ALL storage fee’s which have accrued must be paid in cash before we release your firearm to you.

ALL firearms transferred through an FFL must be accompanied by the required “FIREARMS SHIPMENT APPROVAL” letter/number from the “California Firearms Licensee Check System” (CFLC). We cannot process the transfer without this authorization. Your seller should be clued into this, however some are not. We will do our best to help them through this process, but if they ship your firearm without this letter or authorization number, we cannot proceed until we have it. YOU should confirm with your seller that THEY are aware of this requirement, and if not, please advise us in your initial email.

All firearms that come to us from a NON-FFL MUST be preceded by a copy of the sellers VALID state issued photo I.D. In other words, your seller needs to email us a copy of their drivers license saved as a .PDF BEFORE THEY SEND THE FIREARM. It is YOUR responsibility to confirm that the seller is willing to do that before you engage us. We do NOT send copies of our FFL to NON-FFL’s or non-licensee’s and will NOT begin the transfer process until we have a copy of their I.D. in hand. This is the only way we can confirm who/where the firearm came from.

All FIREARMS must have an approved lock. Most new handguns come with an acceptable (DOJ Approved) lock. You are REQUIRED by California law to provide us with a receipt for an approved lock which you purchased no sooner than 30 days prior to taking delivery if your firearm did not come with an approved lock. We typically carry approved firearms cable locks and can provide one at our cost. Firearms which require trigger locks (lever action rifles, single shot pistols, rifles and certain shotguns) will need to be provided by the customer. We do NOT stock them. Please get one for your gun BEFORE you come to start the process. The other option is for you to complete a “Safe Affidavit” which is you affirming that you own a DOJ approved safe or lock box. You can download the affidavit here:      https://www.oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/firearms/forms/bof-978.pdf
Do NOT sign or date the safe affidavit prior to arriving to start your transfer. You need to sign and date it in our presence. Bring the affidavit with you when you come to start the DROS process.

You are required to provide a “snap-cap” or “dummy round” for YOUR firearm when you come to start the process IF WE DO NOT HAVE ONE FOR YOUR FIREARM. Please ask when you call or email.  We do NOT have them for every caliber. We have them for most, but not all, so our policy is to require that you provide one unless you have confirmed with us that we have your caliber. This is necessary for you to be able to complete the safe handling demonstration on YOUR firearm.

Once the paperwork is started, we have done our part. If you are delayed or denied for any reason by the California DOJ or the BATFE, we will not refund any part of the dealer or DROS fees we collected from you. The DOJ does not issue refunds to us for the DROS, so we don’t offer them out of pocket. The dealer fee is not refundable because we have done our part and expect to be paid for that service.

RETURN SHIPPING or SHIPPING ELSEWHERE: We charge $55.00 PLUS ACTUAL SHIPPING COST to send firearms ANYWHERE, for ANY reason. If you changed your mind, and we received your firearm(s), and now you need us to ship them back to the seller, or another FFL, it will cost you $55.00 plus the actual cost of shipping, which includes any necessary packing materials. This is a time and materials charge.

Safe Affidavit: You will need to fill one out OR provide a receipt for an approved lock (dated no more than 30 days prior to your appointment) for YOUR firearm unless it came with one. If you are confused…PLEASE ASK US BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT.

Firearm Safety Certificate

If you have one, you need to bring the ORIGINAL with you.

If you do not have one, or yours is expired, you need one. We can administer the test and issue a new certificate at the time you come to start your transfer. The cost is $25.00 and the certificate is good for 5 years.

It is a good idea for you to download the study guide and prep for the test. There are quite a few questions that seem to catch everyone out. Don’t be the first person we have ever failed! You can miss 6 out of the 30 questions and still pass…..
